What We Believe

At OK Foster Wishes, we believe that engaging the community is the answer to ending the foster crisis in Oklahoma. We not only bring awareness but also show people how they can make a difference in the life of a child in foster care, outside of the commitment of becoming a foster family.

Most people don’t know that there are many ways to help a child in foster care, like volunteering, donating a Christmas gift, or just taking a child to a doctor’s appointment or to the zoo for the day. At OK Foster Wishes, our goal is to engage the community in active participation with children who need positive influences in their lives.

For the first time in about a decade, there are fewer children in foster care today than there were a year ago. We have no doubt this is because our community has seen the need to support those in foster care. While we celebrate the progress, we know our work isn’t done as long as there’s a child without a forever home.

OK Foster Wishes exists by community support. We can make the most of whatever you have to give, whether it’s your time or money, to greatly impact the lives of the over 10,000 children in foster care statewide.

Foster Care Statistics

Approximately 30,000 children age out of foster care every year across the nation. It can be a bleak future for those who leave foster care without ever finding their forever family. Our purpose is to help children in foster care across our state from becoming one of these statistics.

50% of children in foster care will drop out of high school
by age 21, only 2% will have earned at least a 2-year degree
62% will be unemployed 12-18 months after aging out of foster care

25-33% will be homeless within three years
60-70% will have babies by the age of 21
30% will be arrested between the ages of 18-21
